I don’t care whatever arguments you have for the Slaughter of Horses, all I can tell you is I totally disagree!! Strongly Disagree!! And anyone who thinks this is necessary is seriously NOT thinking.
I actually hear people say this is a necessary thing, horses need to be slaughtered, how can we care for 100,000 horses, it’s expensive? What else would we do with all those horses, who is going to pay for their keep? Man, you people need to give your heads a shake!! who do you think is the cause of so many horses being born? Have any of you heard of PMU farms? Do you know what they do?
What are Premarin Foals?
Premarin or PMU (PREgnant MARe urINe) foals are mere by-products of the Hormone Replacement Therapy drug Premarin® that is prescribed to women in menopause or who have had hysterectomies. This drug is made from the urine of approximately 60,000 pregnant mares (female horses) and their foals are usually shipped to slaughterhouses for their meat, which is marketed overseas to European and Asian countries for human consumption. When the mares can no longer conceive they too are generally shipped for slaughter and replaced on the “pee lines”. These horses and foals vary in breed, the majorities are; Paints, Appaloosas, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Drafts, and crosses of each.
PMU farms get horses, keep them pregnant all of their lives, mistreat and abuse them by improper feeding and watering and handling. Then when the foals are born they send them to slaughter because they don’t want to flip the bill to take care of them until they to can stand in a stall the rest of their lives to produce urine so the farmer can line his pockets and feed his family. How many horses do you think are born on PMU farms every year? Do you think that maybe if PMU farming was cut out of the picture we maybe wouldn’t have so many horses to look after, so many Horses that need to be sent to slaughter because no one wants to look after them or can afford to? Think about it, it’s an endless chain of events started by who? People, started by people, Humans they call themselves. Do you think that maybe if people ( and I use that term lightly) in Europe didn’t eat Horses and consider it a delicacy that there would be such a demand for Horse Slaughter and more Horses? IF the people selling to the slaughter houses and the slaughter houses themselves and the people selling Horse meat for food consumption in their restaurants weren’t making a shit load of money out of it, that we would have this problem at all?
Again that’s what it’s all about, Money and Greed. It’s an endless circle caused by people and can be stopped by people, but as you can see in some of these video’s that these type of people have no feelings at all. Some in particular think it is a sport and as he stabs the HELPLESS Horse in the neck with a knife and continuously missing the spot he is looking for others watch on and applaud him when he finally downs the horse, which is now suffering from all the stab wounds and is not yet dead. Then he sticks the knife in the Horses neck and leaves him to die a slow painful death. Horses hanging from a rope by the leg being skinned and they are still not dead. How can ANYONE justify this??
If we were to take the same people who do this and tell them they have to continue to do it because (as some say) it is necessary because there are to many horses but they will not be getting paid for it what do you think the outcome would be?? Well except for a select few sick individuals who I am sure get pleasure from it I am sure this problem wouldn’t exist and PMU farmers would be up to their eyeballs in foals to feed.
Sick, Greedy, Inhumane Individuals, Corporations, Governments Who slowly ruin everything on this planet and blame it on everyone else and all to line their pockets.
Fortunately last year PMU farming was outlawed in Canada and Quebec. I went to such a PMU farm that I didn’t even know existed not 20 miles from where I live. The guy had over 100 PMU mares!! 90% of them were in foal, so if you do the math how many foals did he have every year? Multiply that by how many PMU farms there are in Canada and Quebec alone and then try and tell me why we have so many Horses!!
Between myself and my friend we bought 5 of the Horses and when we made him an offer for the group of them his immediate response was “I could make more then that selling them for meat”
So the Government put a stop to PMU farming, that’s a good thing, the bad thing is now you have all those PMU farmers with hundreds, actually thousands of Horses that are not making them any income. So where do you think all those Horses will end up. It’s such an easy decision and easy picking for the farmer. He just trots them down to the Auction. The meat grinder at the auction picks them up for next to nothing and he makes a nice cut at the slaughter house who in turn sells the meat to restaurants in Eruope to satisfy the needs for Horse Delicacy. What a system.
I have a solution, here in Canada anyway. The Canadian Government owns all kinds of Agriculture land. We now have an abundance of horses that need to go somewhere. We have immigrants coming into the Country left and right and so many there are definitely not enough jobs for them. The Government puts them up with Subsidized accommodations, gives them either Employment benefits or Welfare to live on. The majority of these Immigrants would much rather be working for a living. Here is a Perfect solution. The Government grant all the farmers the same money they would get for the Horses at auction and then plants those Horses on the Agricultural land developments. People coming into our country can be trained to care for the Horses be given an opportunity for a career in this type of field. They will be working for a living and giving back to the Country and community and putting bread and butter on the table for their families. This would be a win win situation for everyone involved, especially the Horses that no longer get sent to slaughter. And families that come into this country make an honest respectable living doing something that many people would dream of doing for a living. This would also help get some of our own off the street or off Welfare or Employment benefits. The Horses could be used and trained for many things and sold off to people willing to give them a home and look after them.
It’s just an idea. I’m sure if we all got together we could come up with all kinds of feasible ideas to put an end to this endless and useless cruelty. The only ones I could see opposing such a deal would be the Greedy relentless non feeling people who now thrive on this situation and this inhumanity.
But until a better solution becomes reality a few of us are doing what we can to help as many Horses as we can. We have, between the three of us bought 7 horses from a PMU farm and kept 4 of them and found good homes for 3 of them. We are now looking at purchasing property to buy more horses from the PMU farms and do the same thing, keep and care for as many as we can and find good homes for as many as we can.

Remember these are animals we counted on all our lives before Cars and tractors were invented. They were rode into war and taught to protect the soldiers who rode them, they plowed our fields and helped us put food on the table for our families, They give us unconditional love as pets and as work horses on farms and in homes all over the world, and this is how we give back. I don’t understand, I never will.
